Lawyers to announce next phase of movement on 15th
ISLAMABAD: The legal fraternity is to announce the next phase of its movement for the restoration of deposed judges on August 15, most probably to kick off a movement against the government if the deadline (August 14) for their reinstatement is not met.
The National Coordination Council (NCC) formed by the lawyers would meet on August 15 in the federal capital to announce its future course of action for the restoration of the deposed judges.
"We are going to announce on August 15 a movement against the government if it failed to meet the deadline, besides sit-ins near the Parliament House," Chaudhry Amin Javed, Secretary Supreme Court Bar Association told The News on Tuesday. "We welcome the announcement of impeachment but at the same time our deadline of August 14 for restoring the judges is still intact," Amin Javed said and added that the National Coordination Council comprising 28 members of the bar councils across the country was determined to take important decisions on August 15, including launching a movement against the government for the restoration of judges.
He said President Supreme Court Bar Association Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar Council Haji Said Rehman would jointly preside over the meeting in Islamabad on August 15. "This time the NCC is likely to announce two-hour sit-in every Thursday across the country," Amin Javed said. He said the NCC would review the overall strategy of the lawyers' movement and would further deliberate upon various options, including 'locking' the courts, staging sit-ins as well as organising another long march, keeping in view the importance and significance of the earlier long march, which had left a great impact the world over. He said that the legal fraternity was united on the common platform and was determined to continue its struggle for the restoration of judiciary as it existed on November 2, 2007.
