“The relationship between lawyers and judiciary is based on mutual respect and this mutual respect will not only enhance the dignity of the institution but also strengthen. Now it is the duty of legal fraternity to respect the judiciary and to make it strong institution” said the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan while addressing the 40 members delegation of lawyers headed by Shafqat Mehmood Chohan, Chairman Pakistan Judicial Crises Management Council Lahore and alongwith other lawyers from all over Punjab called on his lordship today 11.8.2010 in Supreme Court Building, Islamabad.
2. Appreciating the efforts and struggle of legal fraternity during Lawyers Movement his Lordship said that the lawyers struggled hard to standby the Judiciary for rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution. They travelled long distance to support and assist the movement which was for the cause of independence of judiciary. They faced hardships but no one could flinch them from their cause and destination. They had not gone off the rails but remained committed stead fast and firm and finally achieved their destiny in the form of independent judiciary.
3. Commenting on the Judicial Policy his Lordship said, “the purpose of National Judicial Policy is to provide expeditious and inexpensive justice to litigants. After restoration of independent judiciary the public at large had very high expectations from the Courts as well as from the lawyers to redress their grievances and grant them relief to settle their disputes, restore their rights and maintain peace in society. To achieve this noble cause we alongwith all stake holders including members of the Bar formulated the New Judicial Policy to provide quick justice to litigants. Furthermore, to facilitate, train and to keep young lawyers abreast of decorum and dignity of the Court, the Local Commissions to record the evidence were also constituted”.
4. Talking on the issue of corruption his lordship said, “the menace of corruption affects the credibility of the institution so we will have to remove this element from judiciary with the help and active participation of Bar”.
5. The delegation admired the dedications, commitment and devotion of his lordship for the cause of justice. Malik Muhammad Amjad, Member of British Bar also admired his lordship’s struggle and steps taken to ensure fundamental rights of public at large. He praised the establishment of Human Right Cell in Supreme Court for redressal of grievances of civil society, case of Pakistani Prisoners in Foreign Jails etc., and held in high esteem the steps taken in National Judicial Policy for separation of Judiciary from Executive. He further underlined the need of independent justice system in the society and extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Lawyers of British Community and extended invitation to Hon’ble Chief Justice to visit and address British Bar. The Hon’ble Chief Justice thanked and assured him to visit British Bar in due course of time. Malik Muhammad Amjad further said, that the struggle of lawyers community as well as Hon’ble Chief Justice has made a mark in the judicial history of the world.
6. The other members of delegation appreciated the National Judicial Policy, betterment and improvement in judicial system and disposal rate in country and informed his lordship about their problems.
