ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- They danced. They chanted, "Go, Musharraf, go!" They marched through scalding summer afternoons and chilly winter nights. They wore funereal black.

In March 2007, thousands of Pakistan's lawyers began protests against President Pervez Musharraf for suspending the chief justice of the country's Supreme Court. They absorbed the grievances of others who were angry about a country where the rule of law often gave way to the rule of army generals. It became a movement that took aim at Pakistan's military-backed government and, in particular, the unpopular president and former army chief. They kept up the pressure for more than a year. Credit goes to long marches?: Lawyers rally in front of Army House (August 19,2008)

RAWALPINDI: Lawyers on Monday gathered at Rawalpindi District Bar Association (RDBA) office and rallied in jubilation in front of the Army House to celebrate resignation of Pervez Musharraf as the president.

The gathering was massive given the fact that courts were closed for summer vacation. The lawyers danced and distributed sweets among the people. ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf has vacated Aiwan-e-Sadr after stepping down from the office of President.
He was accorded a 'guard of honour' before leaving the President’s House.

Lawyers to announce next phase of movement on 15th

(August 13,2008)

ISLAMABAD: The legal fraternity is to announce the next phase of its movement for the restoration of deposed judges on August 15, most probably to kick off a movement against the government if the deadline (August 14) for their reinstatement is not met.
The National Coordination Council (NCC) formed by the lawyers would meet on August 15 in the federal capital to announce its future course of action for the restoration of the deposed judges. Complete Story
